Mike James – Part Time Instructor
PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer
Year started diving – 1989
Year started working at DCM - 2005
Why I started diving? - I always wondered what was underneath the sea as a child and was then convinced Scuba was the way to do this after reading a childrens novel that I now can’t remember the name of in which the boy hero went on underwater adventures! As soon as I was old enough to learn to dive (14 in those days) I joined the school cadets so the navy could sponsor me to learn to dive. I discovered that there was marine life in the English seas and never looked back!
Where I have Dived (International) – UK, Maldives, Fiji, Greece, Thailand, Malaysia, Caribbean
Where I have Dived (Australia) – All around
Favourite Dive Site (Australia) – Northern Great Barrier Reef (Nth Queensland)
Favourite Dive Site (International) – Maldives & Similan Islands (Thailand)
Favourite course you like to teach? – Open Water and Underwater Digital Photography
Full Time Occupation - My other office besides Shelly Beach is in Sydney CBD working in finance. I left investment banking behind and now work as a Finance Analyst for Lion Nathan (the brewers). I continue to teach part time as I enjoy the thrill of seeing people experience life under the sea for the first time and the beaming smile you always have at the end of their dive. It’s great to see divers develop their skills and confidence underwater on the continuing education courses too. |
