What you will see

Situated approximately 200kms North of Sydney, Nelson Bay should be on every divers checklist! Discover the stunning marine biodiversity hidden underwater in the Port Stephens region. The area is well known for amazing boat diving at Broughton Island, as well as some spectacular shore diving.

Fly Point, one of the local shore dive sites is famous for the plethora of macro life! As you enter the water you are greeted by hundreds of Bream. This site has a maximum depth of 18m where you dive among a number of ledges. Hidden under and among the ledges are many schools of fish, nudibranchs and even occasionally a resident turtle!

Broughton Island is located about 20 kilometres north of Port Stephens and is home to a large number of amazing dive sites. Here is home to a large aggregation of Grey Nurse Sharks and the water around the island regularly gets up to 20m visibility.

The location:

With gorgeous beaches, aquatic adventures and waterside restaurants, Nelson Bay is the main town in beautiful Port Stephens and boasts some of NSW's finest dive sites. It's also at the heart of the Port Stephens-Great Lakes Marine Park home to diverse marine life including dolphins, turtles, fish, seabirds, sponges, soft corals plus grey nurse sharks. Humpback whales travel along the marine park coastline during their annual migration north.

Fly Point-Halifax Aquatic Reserve lies east, between Nelson Bay and Little Beach in Port Stephens, offering beautiful shore diving and snorkelling. Lush sponge gardens and kelp forests are just a few metres from the beach and home to pineapple fish, blue groupers, octopus, wobbegong sharks and even elusive seahorses. In Summer, juvenile tropical fish appear including butterfly fish, damsel fish, wrass and butterfly cod.

At North Rock, Broughton Island is a resident colony of grey nurse sharks - a must do dive site. It's also a key breeding site for wedge-tailed shearwaters.


  • Minimum Open Water Diver with 15 Dives. 


  • Non-Club $630 (October long w/e) dorm-share (excluding gear hire)
